Message from the Directors, December 2017

jfernandez

As we wrap-up the semester, we want to take a moment to thank you for your support of BCSR. Whether you participated by attending a lecture, donating, or simply by reading our newsletters, we appreciate your connection to our program.

This fall was a very productive semester, with important events dedicated to ritual, Protestantism in the U.S., the senses and religion, and the study of Islam, in addition to compelling co-sponsored talks on democracy, the Iranian Revolution, and American philosophy, among others.

We plan to ride this momentum through the spring, with upcoming highlights including scholar-poet Linda Gregerson on Milton and Leigh Eric Schmidt on atheism in the U.S. The Public Theology program will include talks on theology and gun culture (Dominic Erdozain); political theology (Ruth Marshall, University of Toronto); pantheism (Mary-Jane Rubenstein, Wesleyan) and religious politics (Robert Orsi, Northwestern), as well as our two-day workshop, Theology and Its Publics, scheduled for March 9-10.

Thank you again for your support,

Mark Csikszentmihalyi & Jonathan Sheehan
Co-Directors, The Berkeley Center for the Study of Religion
